One of my ‘pet gripes’ during the last few months is the alarming amount of ‘misfires’ from normally extremely reliable customers. As you may know we take our business extremely seriously particularly in meeting delivery deadlines, constant monitoring of both ocean and airfreight shipments and honoring our commitments from out many suppliers of parts and equipment. On one recent occasion we were assured by out clients that they wanted a particular truck from our brochure. The owner of the vehicle wanted a deposit (naturally) to hold the vehicle until the transfer of funds took place. We paid the deposit and because of past business we assumed that the funds were enroute to us. To date (2 weeks ago) we have not seen ‘hide nor hair’ of the funds and we have not only lost our deposit, but also supplier and our shipping company. These ‘hard knocks’ new make us more inflexible and hardnoxed toward our many genuine customers. This is not the way we like doing business.

MAMMOTH EURO-AMERICAN -June 6, 2006
Tuesday, June 6th 2006
1:03 PM
This month we want to explain why you our valued customer IS getting a better deal by buying a Mammoth Euro-American than the competition from either North America or Europe.
Our truck is based on the Freightliner FLD120 – a very basic and extremely rugged truck that makes up the mainstay of most of North American’s exports to Africa. Our cab is a Right Hand Drive cabover from E.R.F.; a name very familiar with transporters in Southern, Central & East Africa. With the two major components (cab & chassis) well established we move on to the running gear firstly the engine.
Two major contenders here the highly acclaimed and very popular Cummins N14 with horsepower ranging from 430 – 525 and then the exceedingly popular Detroit Diesel 60 Series with horsepower ranging from 365 to 500. Finally we can offer Caterpillar, Volvo, Mercedes Benz and Mack on request.
Transmissions choice is Eaton fuller 9 -18 speeds or Rockwell ZF 9 or 13 speeds.
Rear Axles – Rockwell-Meritor RT40-145 or RT46-160 and Eaton Spicer DS404 or DS461.
To assist with the various length and axle load requirements applicable in the various export countries we will custom build chassis to your exact requirements as you can imagine this process is in fact a total rebuild on a pre-owned truck. We replace worn components as we feel necessary – in short if a component is worn we replace it in the rebuild process. Obviously the vehicle is more costly than an “off the shelf” used vehicle from the United States or Britain it is more desirable than a Left Hand Drive bonneted (long nose) North American truck or a overly complicated European 4 x 2 or (even worse) 6 x 2. Talk to us now about the no compromise Mammoth Euro-American.

PRESS RELEASE-Greetings from Summerland -April 4, 2006

PRESS RELEASE
Greetings from Summerland “The New Truck Building Capital of B.C.!”
Just an update on our first Mammoth Euro-American since its arrival in Africa; the new owner “Rolling Thunder International” had the truck completely certified to operate (loaded with trailer and commodity) throughout the republic of South Africa. This involved the installation of a Chevron Board on the rear of the chassis, outboard mounted stop tail lamps and orange indicator lamps. Change from palm type air hose couplers to push-on type. The E.U. (European Union) certified windshield and concave rear view mirrors which is a mandatory change; came gratis with our European cab.
We have a Detroit powered (500 HP) chassis being built as we speak and to follow is another N14 powered unit. Our program for the next 12 months is 20 units and will include a few L.H.D. units for West Africa. Who said “a single swallow does not make a summer.” Who knows with Freightliner going out of the cabover business shortly? Rumor has it they are to discontinue domestic “Argosy” sales. We might be the only North American truck company offering a Class 8 C.O.E. tractor. Before we know it that “Great American Custom Built Truck” will give way to a badged engineered “cookie cutter” (upgraded pick-up) truck. Enough “waffle” we have real trucks to build. Thanks again for your kind interest in our Mammoth Truck.

SALES THROUGH SERVICES -Dec 1, 2005

11:02 AM
Once again the New Year is well under way and we at Mammoth Trucks BC Ltd. are gearing ourselves up for a busy year. The most exciting part is the coming together of our very own Mammoth ‘Euro-American’ R.H.D. cab-over. For those customers and interested truckers without access to the internet our Euro-American project is the blending of the best of Europe & America in one truck. American engine, transmission and axles in 6 x 4 configurations with a R.H.D. European cab.
This is no overnight achievement. Based on 40 years of service from our humble beginnings in Chingola in 1963, when Geoff Gogle opened his small workshop on David Kaunda Rd. Many of our customers are children and grandchildren of our original customers.
We took great pride in keeping our customers on the road and even if you had a vehicle that the regular repair shops would not even look at, like a Panhard DKW, Citroen, Nash, Studebaker, Armstrong-Siddeley, Daimler, Simca, Singer, Humber, Etc., Etc., we found the parts (or made them) to keep them on the road. The next step was to capitalize on our service reputation and sell cars and trucks, initially on a small commission basis, from the emerging Japanese manufacturers like Toyota, Mazda, and Datsun. After acquiring a sub-dealership for Daihatsu cars and light trucks our growth accelerated, which ultimately led to a full franchise for Mitsubishi cars and trucks. As our path tended to lean more to Class 8 trucks we secured the White/Western Star franchise for Central Africa. Our success with marketing a ‘new’ brand of truck in an already crowded market place came with lots of hard work in proving to our customers that we were marketing a superior motor vehicle. In the ensuring years we sold 100 Stars in to Central and Southern Africa. No mean achievement, when each truck averaged out at around U.S. $100,000 per unit.
Looking into our crystal ball we saw the market changing from the U.S. $100 grand truck to the U.S. $15,000 level. This led us to North America to join the giant ‘rat race’ never forgetting the original modus operandi ‘Sales through Service.’ Now 6 years down the track and another 130 plus Class 8 trucks exported to Central/Southern Africa together with a parts supply service that really ‘works,’ we enter a new era. Exporting a truck with our own brand name and backing it up with parts and technical service.
This truck has arrived right on time, just when the road and traffic authorities are putting pressure on bonneted (conventional) and left hand drive truck operators. Obviously we will not stop marketing our L.H.D. trucks, but for those truckers that do cross-border operations you can buy your next truck from us. The engine of choice for our Mammoth ‘Euro’ is the Cummins N14 but we will also offer Detroit and Cat engines as customer preferred options.
Once again we are breaking ground with offering our customers a ‘custom built’ pre-owned truck. Your feed back is appreciated. Until next time – ‘Keep on trucking.’

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? -Nov 5, 2005

What Is The Difference Between Us And The Other 50 Plus North American Heavy Truck Exporters?
North America is full of “Sharp Shooter” truck sales people – with their flamboyant “Barnum & Bailey” promise of “Bigger, Brighter, Better at Bargain prices!!” You truck people in the various export markets of the world have seen and experienced results of the “high sales pitch guys” who will not stop calling until the sale is “closed” and once the truck is out of their yard and paid for, its you who has to do the calling. It’s still a long way between the Midwest of the U.S.A. and Central Africa.
Next big “bone of contention” is that urgently needed part for your “new” truck or a manual to show you how to adjust the clutch or set up a rear axle, not to mention setting the valve clearances on your Cummins or Detroit. We are a technical company with over 40 years in the heavy truck business. We ask you how many truck dealers that you know, can and actually do build trucks, not Many! Every one of our trucks is covered by a workshop manual pertaining to that particular truck, and a parts book with schematic illustrations that will help identify the parts and their correct terminology which is essential for acquiring the correct parts. Once we have the parts they are quickly expedited via Vancouver and air freighted or in the case of very heavy parts, ocean freighted to Durban or Dar-Es-Salaam. UTI are our normal accredited carriers. However we are prepared to use other carriers should our clients wish to do so.
In short we feel that we are the truck company that you should be talking to.

As the developed world is moving more and more into a state of highly sophisticated automotive technology - The truck manufacturers in North America, Europe & Asia have all but forgotten about the developing countries that are just reaching for the first rung of the technology ladder. With this in mind I ask a simple question – Do the markets of Central Africa require this type of sophistication? What does your driver do when the on board computer decides to shut the engine down for whatever reason? In a nutshell this could mean a thousand kilometre breakdown just to change or isolate a sensor. Even jump starting an E.C.M. equipped truck could blow the diodes in the computer – rendering the vehicle lifeless on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. One progressive (?) company that has addressed this problem is VW in South Africa. Recently a leading Canadian motoring editor visited South Africa and discovered that VWSA still produced the first generation VW Golf that revolutionised the motoring world over 20 years ago. The vehicle even has a carburettor. In North America – carburettors have gone the way of the dinosaur and only used on ‘hot rods.’ This alternative but simple vehicle is completely realistically priced and serves as an entry level car for the masses. In conclusion we want to take a page out of VW’s book and make our Mammoth Euro-American more compatible to our export markets and remove some of the unnecessary sophistication – a retrograde step – I don’t think so. Keep on trucking & drop us your comments.

IN VIEW OF RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN SOUTH AFRICA -March 1, 2005
Tuesday, March 1st 2005
11:05 AM
In view of recent developments in Southern Africa, regarding the hardening attitude towards left hand drive H.G.V.’s (Heavy Goods Vehicles) operating in predominately R.H.D. countries, we at Mammoth Trucks BC Ltd. have decided to give our customers what effectively is a ‘custom engineered’ pre-owned truck, which combine the attributes of both a European cab design with a North American power train.
Nothing new really – except for new trucks, ERF, Foden, Liaz, Seddon-Atkinson etc have done this for years. However for a used truck this has not been economically viable as the cost of conversion to R.H.D. on a C.O.E. North American truck is very expensive (we know because we are
Converters) which effectively add from 30% to 50% of the initial purchase price to the converted vehicle. Much too high! this takes the "cherry" off the North American (truck) "pie", leading to truckers rushing to the U.K. to buy R.H.D. horses from Mercedes Benz, MAN, Volvo, Scania, et al – but the negative side is 4x2 or 6x2 configurations! – Not 6x4 which legally is the only acceptable form of providing traction ‘and’ weigh bridge conformation. So what’s our solution? Take an N14 or S-60 powered conventional (bonneted) day cab from suppliers (International, Freightliner, Kenworth, Volvo, Ford, Sterling, etc.) and install a good used European R.H.D. cab.
All Engineering work will be done in North America and the client will receive a "ready to haul" truck. Donor chassis will be within model years 1996-2000 (last year of N14)

ANNOUNCING THE BEGINNING OF THE MAMMOTH EURO-AMERICAN -Feb 6, 2005
Sunday, February 6th 2005
11:01 AM
Mammoth Trucks BC Ltd. Takes great pride in announcing the beginning of production of its first Mammoth Euro-American Class 8 truck/tractor. This vehicle incorporates the best of both worlds – North American chassis power train and European cab design. In our efforts to secure an even greater part of the growing export market with this unique vehicle – we are breaking ground as the vehicle will be available in reconditioned and new form. This covers a much broader spectrum of the market and our export price range will start at U.S. $30,000 ex works for a ‘used’ unit. Our Euro-American has arrived right on time for our right hand drive export markets – which constitutes the bulk of our sales.
Recent developments in Southern Africa with transport legislations have literally eliminated conventional (bonneted) left hand drives from the roads. This has come about by stricter enforcement of overall length limits and operating L.H.D. vehicles in a R.H.D. country – in itself a major road safety hazard – In short “the right truck at the right time.”
Technically the trucks will be Cummins N14 powered with Eaton Fuller 9-18 speed transmissions with Rockwell-Meritor bogie systems, all proven components with first class back up in even the remotest export markets. We will be looking for franchisees in various countries.

MAMMOTH TRUCK PRESS RELEASE-Jan 13, 2005
Thursday, January 13th 2005

“Replacement for Western Star in the Okanagan? – Could well be.”
The small band of dedicated Mammoth Truck staff in Summerland drove their first Mammoth Euro-American Class 8 Tractor out of their equally small factory in the James Lake Industrial Area of Summerland into the bright Okanagan sunshine this week. Significant, as this vehicle is going to have a bright future in the growing Right Hand Drive Export Market throughout the world. First visitors from New Zealand arrive on June 22nd followed by visitors from South & Central Africa in July and August. This vehicle incorporated the best of both trucking worlds. A modern and drive friendly European style cab with the traditional simplicity and longevity of a North American chassis and drive train. A perfect combination for the demanding export markets that adamantly require R.H.D. vehicles with very strict overall length restrictions, both impossible criteria for North American used truck dealers to meet. In short, the right truck for the right (hand drive) market.
For more information visit our website – www.mammothtrucks.com and click on Euro-American.
